Roof Cleaning Liverpool

Roof Cleaning in Liverpool

Roof cleaning in Liverpool removes moss, algae, lichen and built-up grime from tiled and slated roofs. We use soft washing — low-pressure water combined with a biocidal treatment — which cleans thoroughly without the damage high-pressure jet washing can cause to tiles. Most roofs are transformed in a single visit.

Liverpool's damp climate is tough on roofs. Frequent rain, humid air and long, grey winters mean moss, algae and lichen get a firm hold — especially on north-facing slopes that rarely see direct sun. Left alone, the growth spreads, gutters clog with debris, and the whole roof starts to look tired.

Our soft-wash method is designed for exactly these conditions. We start by clearing heavy moss by hand, then clean the roof with low-pressure water and apply a biocidal treatment that keeps killing regrowth for months afterwards. No high-pressure jets, no stripped tile surfaces, no water forced under the tiles.

Every job finishes with cleared gutters and a tidy-up of the grounds below, so the only sign we've been is a roof that looks years younger.

How does roof cleaning work?

  1. Inspection and setup

We check the roof's condition, tile type and access, then protect planting and set up safely.

  2. Moss clearance

Heavy moss is lifted by hand or with specialist tools so it doesn't end up in your gutters.

  3. Soft wash

The roof is cleaned with low-pressure water, lifting algae, lichen and grime without damaging the tile surface.

  4. Treatment and tidy-up

A biocidal treatment is applied to slow regrowth. Gutters are cleared and the area below is left tidy.

Why have your roof cleaned?

A roof that looks years younger

Years of green and black staining lift away, restoring the colour of your tiles and the kerb appeal of the whole property.

Slower regrowth

The biocidal treatment keeps working after we leave, killing moss and algae at the root so the roof stays clean for longer.

No pressure-washer damage

High-pressure jet washing can strip the surface from tiles and force water underneath them. Soft washing avoids that risk entirely.

Clearer gutters

We clear the moss and debris that washing loosens, so your gutters and downpipes flow freely instead of overflowing.

What affects the price?

Every roof is different, so we quote individually after hearing about yours. These are the main factors that shape the price:

Frequently asked questions

Will roof cleaning damage my tiles?

Not when it's done properly. High-pressure jet washing can strip the protective surface from concrete tiles and force water under slates, which is why we don't use it. Soft washing uses low-pressure water — about the force of a strong garden hose — combined with a biocidal treatment. It cleans the tile surface without scouring it, making it safe for concrete, clay and slate roofs, including older ones.

How long does roof cleaning take?

Most single residential roofs are finished in a day. Larger detached houses, heavily mossed roofs or awkward access can take longer, and we'll always give you a realistic timescale with your quote. We never rush the treatment stage — the biocide needs proper contact time to keep working after we leave.

How long will my roof stay clean?

The biocidal treatment keeps killing moss, algae and lichen for months after the visit, so regrowth is much slower than after a plain wash. How long the clean look lasts depends on shade, nearby trees and which way the roof faces — north-facing slopes in damp spots will always green up first. Most customers find the roof still looks good well beyond the first year.

Do I need to be at home while you work?

No. As long as we can reach the roof and have access to an outside tap, we can get on with the job while you're out. We'll confirm access arrangements when you book, and we'll send before-and-after photos so you can see the result.

Can you clean my roof in winter?

Yes, we work through most of the year. Soft washing doesn't rely on heat or fast drying, so cooler months are fine. The only times we'll reschedule are heavy rain, high winds or frost, when ladders and roof surfaces aren't safe. If the weather turns on the day, we'll rearrange at a time that suits you.

Will you clean my gutters as well?

Yes — every roof clean includes clearing the gutters of the moss and debris the wash loosens. Blocked gutters are one of the main reasons people call us in the first place, so it makes no sense to leave them full. If your gutters need a deeper clean or the downpipes are blocked, we can add our full gutter cleaning service on the same visit.
